Follow inventor Jimmy and his classmates as they try to unravel a mysterious polluter who threatens their seaside community. Jimmy's mother says, "We musn't always worry so much about my not working. It's enough that I have a boy who loves and looks after me." Jimmy, who thinks of himself as an inventor and investigator and who has a lot of drive and ambition, works hard at his after school business to help provide an income for himself and his illiterate widowed mother. But when a nosy neighbor threatens their livelihood, mother and son learn to overcome adversity with a lot of love and determination The various issues include: non-point source polution, and storm water drains, creativity, immigration, poverty, self-employement and literacy.
